Being aware of the climate and ecological breakdown may lead to legitimate frustration, idleness and despair. However, pessimism and inaction won't help. Those who do not react risk becoming themselves a part of the problem, rather than contribute to the solutions.
As the climate activist and writer Emily Johnson put it:
Our job is not to feel hopeāthat's optional. Our job is to be hope, and to make space for the chance of a different future. (...) What fuels me is the knowledge that we can still make a difference, and therefore we must: we can preserve lives, and life, in the most basic and beautiful sense possible. |
